Perry Mason is an Emmy-winning American TV series that ran from 1957 to 1966. Perry Mason was played by actor Raymond Burr. The title character is a fictional defense attorney who originally appeared in detective fiction by Erle Stanley Gardner.

There are few actors so closely tied to a persona than Raymond Burr as Perry Mason. This long-running series was built upon Erle Stanley Gardner´s many novels about a brilliant defense lawyer and his staff, that solved many a crime with surprise witnesses and stern cross-examinations.It was the first mystery series to feature chalk or tape outlines to mark the spots where bodies were found. Filmed almost exclusively in the Los Angeles area, Raymond Burr had Gardner's seal of approval in the role. The cases were usually won by way of pivotal confessions of witnesses, solicited by Perry Mason (Burr's) surgeon-like examination or with last-minute, key evidence brought into the courtroom by private investigator, Paul Drake (William Hopper). Della Street (Barbara Hale), Perry´s faithful secretary, was always at Perry's side in the courtroom where hapless Hamilton Burger (William Tallman) was the Los Angeles District Attorney who never seemed to win. As to the myth that Perry Mason never lost, there were 2 episodes where it did occur... but you'll have to watch to find out.The show was revived in 1973-74, with other actors in the familiar roles (Monte Markham as Mason), and then again with the some of the original cast, in a string of feature length TV films from 1985 until Raymond Burr´s death in 1993.

The plot is essentially the same in each episode:the first half of the show would usually depict the prospective murder victim as richly deseriving of homicide often with Perry's client publicly threatening to kill the lowlife; the body is found (often by Perry and Paul who through incredible circumstance just happen to stumble upon the body) surrounded by clues pointing to Perry's hapless client but oddly enough, with no blood or gore on the scene. Mason's client is put on trial for murder, but Mason is able to establish his client's innocence by dramatically demonstrating the guilt of another character.

Detective Fictional Stories " Perry Mason

Those who are interested in detective type of stories will actually enjoy the story of this particular character " Perry Mason. This fictional character has been a main character in a variety of detective stories which was written by Erle Stanley Gardner.

There were more than eighty novels as well as short stories which featured Perry Mason and most of these stories had to do with his involvement with having a client being involved in a murder case. In a typical manner, Perry Mason was capable of establishing the innocence of his client and being able to demonstrate the guilt of another person being involved in such case.

The author is known for being one of the best-selling ones of all times and was even able to have about 135 million copies of his own books printed in America in 1969 (the year when he died). Perry Manson’s character was then portrayed on the radio as well as on TV and film representations. It was even able to achieve having the longest running lawyer series on TV which started from the year 1857 up to the year 1966. There came another series launched in the year 1973 to 1974 which starred Monte Markham and Bret Somers and then another twenty five for TV movies starting from the year 1985 up to 1993.

The inspiration of the author Gardner actually came from his own childhood. He was a wide reader and kept reading magazines from Youth Companion. This particular magazine is well-known for producing the genuine issues of Pledge of Allegiance year 1891. This was actually published by the Perry Mason Company in Boston, Massachusetts. Gardner got his inspiration from here and borrowed the company’s name for his fictional story character.

The author’s earlier novels were more likely concentrated on providing more information regarding Mason’s character. Though, this particular character is widely taken for granted by media in those novels which came out later on.

The author described Mason as for being a lawyer who is capable of fighting hard for his clients who currently have “hopeless” cases as we call them. He is more interested in accepting clients who have cases which he find himself interested with and challenging as well.
